Electrical Service Upgrades

Electrical Service & Panel Upgrades in Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky

Fully licensed and insured Master Electricians. Serving the tri-state area since 1990.

Is your home asking for more power than it was built to deliver? Many tri-state homes still run on electrical service that was sized long before EV chargers, heat pumps, and kitchens full of appliances. Premiere Electric upgrades panels and electrical service for homeowners across Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky. Before we recommend an upgrade, we make sure you actually need one.

Signs Your Home Needs More Electrical Capacity

  • Breakers trip when two or three appliances run at the same time
  • Lights dim when the microwave, air conditioner, or dryer turns on
  • You have to plan which appliances can run together
  • You're adding an EV charger, heat pump, hot tub, or home addition
  • A home inspector or insurance company flagged your panel or fuse box
  • Your home still has a fuse box or an older or recalled-brand panel

Call right away if you notice any of these: An outlet, switch, or panel that feels hot, buzzes, smells like burning, or has scorch marks needs attention now. Turn that circuit off at the breaker and call us. These are warning signs of a loose connection or overloaded circuit, and they need a professional diagnosis whether or not you end up needing an upgrade.

Upgrade or Repair? We'll Give You an Honest Answer

A tripping breaker doesn't always mean you need a new panel. Sometimes the cause is one overloaded circuit, a worn breaker, or a loose connection that a repair will fix. We come to your home, look at your electrical system in person, and give you an upfront quote with no hidden costs or fees, whether the answer is a simple repair or a full service upgrade.

What an Electrical Service Upgrade Includes

An electrical service upgrade increases how much power your home can safely draw from the utility. Every home is different. Depending on what we find, your upgrade may include:

A new electrical panel with the capacity and breaker space your home needs;

circuit breaker replacement, including arc-fault (AFCI) breakers where code requires them

A new meter base and service entrance cable sized for the higher amperage;
grounding and bonding updates to bring the system up to current code

Whole-house surge protection installed at the panel

Coordination with your utility to disconnect and reconnect power.

If your home also has knob-and-tube or other outdated wiring, we'll explain your rewiring options so you can plan the work in the right order.

100, 200, or 400 Amps: How Much Service Does Your Home Need?

The right size depends on your home's square footage, how it's heated and cooled, and what you plan to add. We do a load calculation to size your service correctly instead of guessing.

H3: 100-Amp Service
Common in older and smaller homes that use gas for heat, hot water, and cooking. Often not enough once you add an EV charger, electric HVAC, or major appliances.

H3: 200-Amp Service
Standard for many single-family homes today. Usually the right choice for homes adding an EV charger, a heat pump, or a finished basement.

H3: 400-Amp Service
For large homes, all-electric homes, or homes with several high-demand loads, such as EV charging plus a heat pump plus a pool, hot tub, or workshop.

Whole-Home Automatic Transfer Switches for Generators

A service upgrade is a good time to prepare your home for backup power. An automatic transfer switch safely moves your home to generator power when the grid goes down and back again when utility power returns, so you never have to backfeed or run extension cords through the house.

Electrical Service Upgrade FAQs

How do I know if I need a service upgrade or just a repair?

Frequent breaker trips, dimming lights, and a fuse box or older panel are common signs, but some of these problems come from a single circuit or a worn breaker. The only reliable answer comes from an in-person evaluation. We'll tell you honestly whether a repair will solve it.

Do I need 200-amp service for an EV charger?

Not always. It depends on your current service size and what else your home runs. A load calculation tells us whether your existing panel can support a charger, or whether you need a panel upgrade or a separate service.

How long will my power be off?
That depends on the job scope and the utility's schedule. We'll give you the expected power-off window before work begins so you can plan your day.

Do you handle permits and inspections?

Yes. We arrange the permits and inspections required for your location in Ohio or Kentucky.

My home inspector or insurance company flagged my panel. What should I do?
Get it evaluated before you agree to a full replacement. Some panel brands, such as Federal Pacific and Zinsco, are commonly flagged by insurers, while other issues can be repaired. We'll tell you what you're dealing with and provide a written quote.
How much does an electrical service upgrade cost?
The price depends on the amperage, whether the meter or service line needs to be changed, grounding requirements, and any code corrections. After the evaluation, you'll get an upfront quote with no hidden costs or fees.
Do you guarantee your work?
Yes. We guarantee all parts, labor, and materials for one year.
